When we left Singapore for Bali my sister sent me a text saying Just make sure you check out Jalan Laksmana (a streetname) and go to Cafe Bali. We tried a couple of days to find this street – laksmana, lakasmana left? right? with no luck and had kind of given up on it till we stumbled across it while looking for somewhere to eat dinner. After the crudeness and colorfulness of Jalan Legian, Laksmana is cool, calm and collected – stylish furniture and designer clothing stores, Italian restaurants, art galleries… and Cafe Bali.
I’ve been slightly interior design obsessed lately as we are planning house renovations (yes, still and yes I know its been ages and no, it still hasn’t started. wanna come and pack up the house for me?) but this place is gorgeous. I don’t know who owns it and who did the interiors but they just did such a good job of creating a wonderful, calm and stylish interior while still keeping the features of the original old house and not going too modern and funky. Plus it incorporates local Balinese features, and just has a wonderfull calmness about it that I’m sure my photos do not do justice too.. nevertheless, Ladies and Gentlemen, may i present to you Cafe Bali:
and check this out for a chandelier:
It all kinda looks like it shouldn’t go together – flowers and frills and a wall of mirrors and white tables with lace table cloths and mismatched white chairs.. but it does, it really works. Plus their coffee rocks.
yum.
OMG Kyla – this place is AMAZING & BEAUTIFUL!!! Thank you for emailing me and for the link to this. I must post it on ABT! THank you so much and do keep me informed as to your new venture – I would love to look at your wares once you are up and running as I am always looking for beautiful things for my store. Wow, I’m Indonesian but it was a long time ago I visited Bali, I need to go there soon! Thanks for the article.
Hi Michaela,
Café Bali was designed and built by my French brother in law (Pak John) and the interiors were done by my Dutch sister (Bu Anna) of Morres Meubel Bali.
He is an architect and she is an interior decorator. They both own the place, together with the restaurant manager Driss, who is of Moroccan descent. (Hence perhaps the somewhat eclectical and international atmosphere…)
If you like this, you should see their house, on a couple of hundred yards distance from the café!
Cheers,
© RJ (proud brother)
Kyla, I just wanted to say your blog on cafe bali is wonderful, and although your photos capture the spirit you are right it doesn’t do the place justice! I just came back from Bali after three weeks holiday and its truly an amazing place.. Cafe Bali was my favorite of all the lovely places we went to.. You just gave me my badly needed bali fix.. I am off again in 4 weeks time and will send you some more pictures
Thanks, Nikki
I have recently returned frmo Bali and spent so much time at Cafe Bali – at least once a day, whether it was for a quick bite, a long lunch, dinner or sometimes we even stopped in on the way home just for dessert, I loved it, felt right at home there!
Anyway I have been trying desperately to find where they sourced the gorgeous PVC lace tablecloths from (they also have black and burgundy), I just want them for personal use, girlie parties etc. If anyone (in particular RJ the proud brother!) could let me know where they order their tablecoths from I would love to know! Apparently they are from somewhere in Java, but i have done many internet searches and can’t seem to find them. Any help would be appreciated!
OMG…what a pictures…!!! I love all of them.
