Hi Kyla,
Love your website! I am new relatively new to Mumbai – my husband and I have transferred over from the UK for a couple of years. We arrived a few months ago! I am amazed at how settled in you sound…. how long have you been here? Its taking a little while to settle into life in Mumbai (everything takes AGES!!!) – but I do love it here….
Keep up the good work on the blog!
Sheetal.
PS – Would love some hints and tips if you have any!!! What would your top three recomendations be for things to do in Mumbai??!
Hi Sheetal,
glad you enjoy my blog, thanks!
I will have been here for 3 years this xmas, so am settled in here but yes it certainly does take a while to get used to how things work, especially when it comes to household stuff like your phone, gas, power etc.. you need extraordinary patience, something that I do not have at all….
top 3 things.. hmm..
well since festival season really kicks off tomorrow, one of my top three is definitly listening to the drums and music of festival days (especially going to chowpatty during ganesha festival)
walking round banganga during early evening / late afternoon when its quiet and restful
eating at.. well i cant limit it to one – Soam, Khyber, Trishna, Tiffin, Shalimar, Paradise, Martins, Souk.. yum .. think I might have to do a blog post dedicated to my favourite restaurants actually!
plus i like:
reading magazines at Crossword Bookshop
walks along marine drive
exploring crawford market
wandering round the art galleries at Kala Ghoda
going through the export overruns stores by colaba post office (Zara pants for 300 rupees!)
sneaking up to the terrace of our apartment building to drink beer and look at the view
playing table tennis at bombay gym
go for long walks around new areas i havent been to and getting lost and then taking a taxi home when im tired
getting wine, dinner and a dvd delivered to home all within 30 minutes of ordering!
hope everything goes well for you, which part of mumbai are you staying in?
there are quite a few ‘expat groups’ around that are good for support and advice, let me know if you want any details.
cheers
Kyla
